I have a pair of Sunny Day Real Estate reissues, a local CD pack including Veritas, Puberty, and Extra Happy Ghost, individual CD's by Mi Ami, Gliss, Lou Barlow, and Nurses, a Famines double 7" pack, and, naturally, my 2009 Each One Teach One funding drive CD. Funding drive is coming up...
... so if you like Each One Teach One (or any of the shows on CJSW, for that matter), consider pledging to keep the station running. The CJSW incentives this year are very nice -- the t-shirt looks great, there's a double-disc CD of songs recorded live in the CJSW studios (including a track that Seizure Salad recorded on Each One Teach One), there's an apron, an ICE CREAM SCOOP, and more!
BUT, I've put together some extra stuff special for fans of Each One Teach One. In addition to the CJSW swag, you'll also get some special Each One Teach One stuff. Most notably, I have put together a special mix CD for the 2009 funding drive. There are two different sets of artwork, and eighteen songs on the mix from Lightning Bolt, Oneida, Mi Ami, Polvo, York Redoubt, Sharp Ends, Obits, Magik Markers, and more.
I've also got full length CDs from Mi Ami and Gliss to give away, and a special pack from Edmonton's The Famines -- their double 7" "Black Sea", w/"A Visual History of the Famines" book and a poster for their new 7". I've also got a huge poster for Sonic Youth's newest album, The Eternal. I'm still scrounging stuff up, so keep tuned in.
The funding drive show takes place in two weeks -- October 27th -- so start saving your pocket change.
If you'd like more info or to pledge early, feel free to shoot me an e-mail.

Sled Island picks coming soon, check back! Make sure to see Obits, Liars, HEALTH, and tomorrow's Fake Jazz Wednesday noise rock show at Broken City!
EDIT-
OK, here are my picks for Sled Island. Trust me -- in addition to this radio show, I'm also a record store clerk and I've been published in a few magazines around Alberta and Vancouver (+20 music dork loser points)
WEDNESDAY
-Fake Jazz Wednesday - Space Rabies, Shearing Pinx, Ahna, Zebra Pulse, and Stamina Mantis at Broken City. 10:30 PM
THURSDAY
-The Gift Eaters, Nu Sensae, Neckbeards, and Friendo at Tubby Dog. 9PM.
OR
-The Coathangers, These Arms are Snakes, and Monotonix at the Distillery. 10 PM.
OR
-Whatever the hell is going on at the Legion. King Khan and BBQ Show, Japanther, Japandroids (VERY loud live), whoever the secret guests are. I've heard rumours of Andrew WK and Anvil, so if you're drunk enough to tolerate neanderthal music (no, I do not like metal in the slightest), have a blast!
FRIDAY
-Monotonix at Tubby Dog. 5 PM. Seriously.
-Liars and the Breeders at the Main Stage, Olympic Plaza. 8:30 PM.
-Mt Analogue, Mt Royal, Puberty, Twin Crystals, and HEALTH at the Marquee Room. 10-2 AM.
-Obits, Women, O'Death, and These Arms are Snakes at the Legion. Pretty much Midnight onwards. I'd absolutely torn between this and the Marquee Room show ... I think you'll see me at the Marquee Room on Friday.
-Also, tune in to Chad's "My Allergy To the Fans" to hear a live set from Colin Newman's band, Githead! 2-4 PM on CJSW 90.9 FM. I was lucky enough to speak with Colin Newman for about 45 minutes over the phone last month, he's quite the guy.
SATURDAY
-Githead at Local 510. Sometime between 10 AM and 3 PM. BeatRoute "hangover" breakfast -- try and locate the writers you disagree with and drink them under the table before noon. Me, I'm on antibiotics, so our drinking contest will have to wait.
-Obits, Lucid 44, Sharp Ends, Wicked Awesomes, and Bayonets!!! at Broken City. 10 PM. Obits are appx. 11:30, and you WILL see me drooling right at the front, probably staring at Rick Froberg. Hey, Yank Crime is one of my five favourite records of all time, and Obits are pretty awesome, so I kinda HAVE to see Rick Froberg at some point.
OR
-Liars and Lint at Dickens pub. 11 PM.
OR
-Githead, HEALTH, Holy Fuck, The Sublinguals, and Women at the Warehouse. 9 PM. Why this is scheduled at the same time as Liars and Obits, I will never know.
SUNDAY
-SECRET. I'm sorry, I can't tell you. There's a ton of amazing stuff going on, but you're going to have to find out from somebody in person.
Be sure to check out the festival schedule to make sure you can catch what you want. These are just my recommendations based on my own taste, and what I play on Each One Teach One. You're bound to find me at almost all of these shows, and if we share taste in music (hell, you're reading this blog), I'll be glad to see you out there as well.

Just as soon as I recover from having a cold in Vancouver, I manage to catch the flu. Nathan, from Mental Brain Thoughts (Sundays 3-7 AM) filled in tonight, and man oh man, that Lightning Bolt Peel Session melts my brain every time I hear it (and not just because they're one of my favourite bands of, uh, ever). Thanks very much for the fill, Nathan!
Lightning Bolt's Peel Session:
-Intro
-2 Morrow Morrow Land
-On Fire
-Dracula Mountain
-Dead Cowboy
-30,000 Monkies
-Rotator
-
Burning Star Core - When the Tripods Come (Operator Dead... Post Abandoned)
I should be back behind the board next week, so long as I don't manage to catch the plague. Boy, I miss being healthy. Having a fever of 103.5 is no fun.

Liars, HEALTH, and Githead will all be playing Calgary as part of the Sled Island festival at the end of June. Other bands that I've played on the show that are playing: Obits, Monotonix, King Khan & BBQ Show, Japandroids, Holy Fuck, and more to be announced. More on that as the festival comes closer.
Pterodactyl's Worldwild is a solid record, although it takes several listens before it really clicks -- probably because it's not nearly as noisy as their previous album. The band seems to have traded in their harsh tones for more psychedelic leanings, but the energy is still there. There's no "Polio" on here, but Pterodactyl have begun branching out a bit -- check it out. (Brah Records)
Here's a video for "No Sugar", from Worldwild:

PUBERTY performing live on E1T1's one-year birthday (April 28th!)
Be sure to tune in this week, as a fairly new but totally rad local group by the name of Puberty will be performing live! This will mark their radio debut, as well as one whole year of Each One Teach One on CJSW's airwaves. Also, they'll first band to perform live on the show!
From what I've gathered from seeing Puberty perform twice, their sound is rooted in older post-punk and noise rock (think Sonic Youth on Sister or Goo, but slightly less aggro). I also hear a slight nod to some Flying Nun bands in there, especially the Clean. Regardless of influence, any band that will say "cover yr ears, motherfuckers!" before stomping on a feedback-creating distortion pedal is good in my books.
You know the deal... tune yr radio dial to 90.9 FM if you happen to be in Calgary, otherwise, take your browser over to the CJSW website and load up the streaming audio. Tuesday, April 28th, 9-10 PM MST.

Touch & Go Records Retrospective + Showfill
Tune into the Banshee Beat on Monday, March 23rd from 2-4 PM MST to hear a special show I've been preparing for a few weeks... with Touch & Go recently announcing they would no longer be issuing new records, I decided to put together a show which showcased the label's history as well as their bands. Starting from their hardcore punk beginnings, moving up through their 80's noise rock, 90's post-punk and post-rock, and their eclectic output from the last decade as well, it'll be a two-hour history that aims to be entertaining and loaded with good tunes, while also being educational enough that you might be able to take some info from it and act all pretentious about it at a party in the near future.
Megan will be hosting Each One Teach One this upcoming Tuesday for me, as I will hopefully be seeing Bonnie Prince Billy at Mac Hall. Be sure to tune in!

Poptones
There's a new show on CJSW which I recommend highly (especially if you like the more post-punk/noise leaning stuff I play on E1T1). Hosted by the very lovely Megan, "Poptones" airs every Thursday morning (or Wednesday night, if you're like me) from 2-6 AM. It's perfect for those all-nighters where you need to meet writing deadlines...
The musical focus is generally more female-based, but it's still loaded with noisy post-punk. Let's put it this way -- for every Polvo song I play, Megan will probably play a Helium song (and for those of you who know the history of those two bands, feel free to draw conclusions about Megan and myself from them). It's rad stuff for the sleep-deprived, so check it out!

Mount Analogue
These guys are a new local band, and if you're a regular listener of the show, they'll be right up your alley. Citing the Birthday Party and the Pop Group as influences, I get a really strong 80's post punk (think the aforementioned groups as well as A Certain Ratio, Wire et all) with very pronounced noise-rock leanings. In plain English: they're noisy as hell and you can groove to it. They're playing Broken City this Thursday with Bikeland and Fake Shark-Real Zombie, and they're playing the Palomino on April 9th. I missed their first show but will be right up front for the next few... check out the songs on their myspace page, and I'll be playing 'em once we get something at CJSW. They're performing live on CJSW this week as well, so tune into Adam's the Failed Pilot on Thursday from noon 'til 2, it should be pretty rad.
On the show this week... I'll be playing some new tunes from These Are Powers, Julie Doiron, DD/MM/YYYY and some other assorted goodies. I'm also working on a Touch & Go Records tribute show, so keep an ear out for that in the upcoming weeks.

living up to the 'noise' and 'experimental' tags...
The show this upcoming Tuesday will feature nothing but speaker-destroying noise & experimental music. Nary a pop hook to be found - ladies and gentlemen, along with special guest co-host Sydney (from Staticland, E1T1's precursor), we will basically annihilate any preconceived notions of normality on your radio. At least from 9-10 PM, MST on Tuesday. Be sure to tune in!
